TOTAL PROFIT 2425
OK month profit wise, however overall very disappointing. I raced to about 5.5K in front by Dec 15th and I thought with me having a little one and not getting out as much (actually got out for 2-3 ales sessions including real good boxing day one) I would be able to take advantage of weaker tables. However - I ran below EV (miles above EV in year in cash, ran awful multis though) and had a few set ups and basically donated back a lot of the profits.
Overall I am pleased with profit in the year coming out above 30K - I started the year with confidence shot and gradually regained it. However, it is interesting to note that my 3 top months profit wise in the year would add up to annual profit showing it is not as consistent and probably more difficult than it used to be.

2010 REVIEW
Bolded part was post in early Jan
2010 AIMS AND TARGETS
1) Stick to what I am statistically profitable at (6 max NLHE and multis) while at the same time reading / watching videos about PLO to understand game better.
* Done OK on this one and better at PLO - have rarely played FL.
2) If not winning in first 6 months of year then to really reduce play to "social" in latter half of year when little one comes along.
* Again OK as was winning after awful start to year. Reality of having a baby (see pic!!) kicked in from July and play naturally reduced about 10 fold.
3) Talk about cash hands more with a couple of local pros.
* Fail - I only have 2 poker mates (Brenos / Ben) and they are both now rush donks :)
4) Do not lay back stake on Betfair on bets, I have had some great long term bets that I have layed and layed and layed to all green rather than redeposit.
* Got better on this one despite sports loss.
5) Aim to win 12K in year and 9 months profitable (much reduced target versus last year due to downturn in last 6 months).
* Passed the 1st part as around 30K and failed 2nd part as 5 losing months.
6) Much more disciplined note taking at cash, building up much better profiles for decision making than I have previous.
* No score draw
No big targets or aims in live MTT, I decided after Macau and EPO last year when I made no mistakes that if it is going to be your day it will be but in hands of gods and have to win at least 80-20s that i have constantly lost in them this year and need to start winning some races also.
* My only multi success in year was winning sats for Irish Open seat and UKIPT seat and cashing in both events, hence 2 from 2 in ranking tournies this year. Gutted Irish open as lost 80/20 in cash to go above average stack and with big shot in 100K sole survivor with about 6 left. Disappointed not to take down a major Internet tourney in the year also.
EDIT
I was quite a few quid in front for Dec so took a shot - pretty damn sick :(

ANOTHER STAKING STORY :(
Had run hot in staking - has risks associated. Prime example below - basicaaly cliffs are I bought decent size stake in someone who isnt going to even play event as busto mine and others cash elsewhere - sick :(
Was starting to look fishy then below today ............
I know an explanation has been due for a while. I've completely avoided 2+2 and this thread up to now; I didn't want to face the reality of the situation, but I realize now the truth is the very least I can offer everyone.
A week or two before the start of FTOPS, I made a trip to AC. After ending down the night gambling, I went back to my room and played online and lost there too. Started to chase losses by martingaling HUSNGs until I was playing multiple 2ks. Ended down that night between 10-15k, the majority of which was backer money.
Since then, I lost even more money trying to cover the hole I was in playing cash, MTTs outside of the package, and live. I borrowed some money from family and a couple friends, and created another package to buy time for myself. I think part of me really believed that I was going to get out of the mess I had gotten myself into, that I had plenty of shots of bink a decent cash that would take care of everything. Of course, I managed to nearly airball both series while losing the rest of my money and then some. By the time my last attempts at running up money failed, it was several days after the package ended, backers' money was gone, and I was dead broke and in debt.
The fact that I was capable of doing something so colossally stupid, that I was capable of having such disregard for my own money and, more importantly, those of my backers probably means that I probably lack the necessary discipline poker requires, and that I may have a real gambling problem. Even though I feel like I've learned from this experience, and that I would absolutely never do anything like this again, I know that it's already too late. I can't turn back the clock, no matter how much I want to. My money is gone. The money invested to me is gone. I abused the trust everyone placed in me, and for that I rightfully won't ever be trusted again.
I have no excuses and accept complete responsibility for what I've done. I want more than anything to be able to pay everyone right now, but I don't have the ability to at this point. Though I am no longer playing poker, I've started working a part-time job and expect to make something like $250/wk depending on my hours. My other time has been spent studying to pursue further schooling, after which I hopefully can secure a career that will, among other things, enable me to pay this debt off faster. For now, it will be a hard grind paying back the $15k+ I owe. I have bills to pay (including a lot of cc debt) like everyone else, and my income right now is small. However, every dime that I can spare will be used to pay back everyone. I will be getting my first paycheck in slightly more than a week and will make a payment back at that time.
I want to offer my sincerest apologies to everyone who got caught up in this. I never meant for all of this to happen, and I will do what I can to set things the way they should be.

LAUGHING STOCK PART 2
Superb article by George Caulkin who in my opinion is the best sports writer out there.
Source: The Times
Having spent time in the company of Derek Llambias, I can confirm the following: he does not have cloven hooves and a forked tail. Having listened to him discuss his ambitions for Newcastle United, I know that there is more to the club's managing director than the one-dimensional, cockney mafia, wrecking-ball stereotype.
In a lengthy chat at St James' Park earlier this season, Llambias was engaging and witty, interesting and provocative. I came away from the meeting gratified that some context had finally been given to Mike Ashley's tenure on Barrack Road, although there was plenty which continued to offer discomfort. This is not a straightforward or simplistic regime.
Chief amongst that was the attitude towards Chris Hughton, a manager who had restored stability to the Newcastle dug-out and, at one of the most febrile points in the club's recent history, led them back to the Barclays Premier League. But, in effect, Hughton had been placed on trial.
That had not been the expectation. After all the hyperbole and disruption which was a continual feature during the brief interregnums of Kevin Keegan, Joe Kinnear and Alan Shearer, Ashley appeared to have stumbled upon a manager he could do business with. A manager who could fit into his system and work with it.
There were disputes and disagreements, of course - there are at every club - but having been appointed as first-team coach under Keegan, Hughton was open-eyed about the challenge and, in successive transfer windows, eked out limited resources from his notoriously unpredictable employer. A balance seemed to have been found.
On the pitch, Newcastle were hardworking and unified, off it Hughton was the figurehead - quiet and undemonstrative. Llambias and Ashley allowed him to speak for the club and while, in truth, he said very little, that deflective approach allowed Newcastle to rebuild away from an intrusive spotlight.
Yet promotion did not bring Hughton any reward. Unconvinced by his record in the transfer market and suspicious of the trust he placed in his players, Ashley viewed this season as a vast step up in class for his employee. No contract extension was offered because he and Llambias believed that it was incumbent on Hughton to prove himself.
There would have been some logic there if it did not run so counter to a simple footballing truth - stability flows from the manager. Newcastle the city needs little excuse to wallow in rumour (socialising and sport remain indelibly linked) and the uncertainty infiltrated every area of the club.
It had taken Hughton and the input of his senior players - who came together in the aftermath of relegation, determined to rectify matters - to bring purpose back to Tyneside, yet Ashley viewed it as well-paid prima donnas doing what they should. A tiff over bonus payments hardened opinions on both sides, with Llambias regarding it as further evidence that Hughton was not in control of his domain.
(For the record, it is a risible suggestion. While Hughton went out on a limb to continue picking Andy Carroll during the height of the striker's off-field notoriety, he has also dropped influential figures such as Michael Owen, Joey Barton and Alan Smith. He retained the respect and affection of players because he behaved towards them with honesty and integrity).
From the perspective of directors with a history in retailing, the bonus system was as antiquated as the notion of plying millions upon agents was insane. They walked away from transfers when middlemen demanded excessive recompense and while that was understandable, a similar attitude caused internal resentment.
Ashley has often been described as a maverick and it is accurate. The heart of his success with Sports Direct has been aggression and a refusal to conform to the status quo and the same applies to Newcastle. When people told him it was not appropriate to dress casually in the directors' box, he shrugged his shoulders and wore his jeans. He is not interested when people explain that there are some things you do not do in football: why not, he would ask?
Keegan railed against the impertinence, but Ashley and Llambias wanted to speak to their manager on the day of matches and chat about tactics and team selection. When things went wrong, they would shout, swear, threaten and then forget about it afterwards, simply because it was the way they worked. Creative tension can be fruitful, after all.
They recognised early that a financial recalibration was coming to sport as a consequence of recession and Ashley's commercial instincts kicked in: cut back, pare-down, strip away. While supporters would have no cause to notice it, almost every department at St James' is operating with a skeleton staff and tiny margins.
Yet they would argue that something had to change. Football in general and Newcastle in particular - a club which has made millionaires of so many gilded wastrels - could not continue as it was. There should be no more stellar signings at the expense of team-building, but young players, either unknown elsewhere or nearing the end of their contracts, should be sought. Each must have a sell-on value.
The days of managers determining which players would be bought and sold were over; Sir Alex Ferguson is an anachronism. The system introduced under Keegan, when Dennis Wise had responsibility for acquisitions, was tweaked but effectively remained in place, with names being put to Hughton for his approval. Having interviewed him on the day that Hatem Ben Arfa's loan from Marseille was agreed, I know that his participation in the process was not fundamental.
Hughton's great strength - the serenity which allowed him to both reject attention and soak up pressure - was, peversely, seen as a weakness. With a more experienced, high-profile manager, Newcastle might earn more television revenue, although it is precisely that approach which has repeatedly undermined the club.
It was within this prism that Ashley and Llambias have had designs to re-name Newcastle's iconic stadium. In a drive towards self-sufficiency and at a time when no area for raising revenue could be ignored, it was, at least, an understandable notion, although as with much else, it was explained clumsily and with minimal detail.
They are combative people, but they have a warmer side. There have been plenty of arguments with supporters in bars and restaurants, but they have often concluded with invitations to lunch in the boardroom, where children are encouraged to roam freely, before home games. Yet it is not something which people hear about.
Their reluctance to engage with their public is a longstanding source of frustration. It is also baffling. While Llambias would say that Ashley has never been given a chance by fans and the media, it is more accurate to say that he has rejected it. He arrived with one great strength - he was not Freddy Shepherd, the former chairman - yet neither he nor Llambias has ever held a press conference, so their story has never been told.
That story is genuinely interesting. The men who run Newcastle have compelling ideas, some of which challenge an insular world and others which feel misguided and contradictory. They would laugh if you told them they must be a nightmare to work for and agree wholeheartedly.
I know what they want. They want a club which funds itself. They want that because it continues to drain Ashley's pockets and while there are no plans in place to sell Newcastle, if a firm and reasonable offer came along, they would consider it readily. Self-efficiency would make it a far more attractive proposition. And if that isn't what they want, then why the hell don't they come out and say so.
What I don't know is what more they expect. For all their concerns with Hughton and a sequence of five matches without victory, do they really suppose that anybody else could have done much better? Do they really think that a return to upheaval will benefit Newcastle at a crucial juncture in their history? Will anybody else prove more malleable? Question: what do they want from a manager?

LAUGHING STOCK :(
I am pretty gutted at events at St James Park today and the sacking of Chris Hughton.
To be honest I was not a member of the anti Ashley crew despite a few PR / appointment blunders and had thought behind the scenes they had done some great stuff - key elements below.
1) Sensible contracts / wages on all new signings.
2) Get rid of a lot of high earners.
3) Kept much lower profile with press - saying nothing which given previous years was by far their most effective form of communication.
4) Lowered some of the ridiculous expectations of the fans and started to rebuild.
However, in my opinion they have ripped it all up by destroying number 4 today. We will now have the press circus, anti Ashley demonstrations and some "representatives" of the North East who have all day on their hands to stand round the ground and be our "representative" voice to Sky Sports etc, which once again will result in us becoming the laughing stock of the country.
Someone is probably lined up already however I would not be surprised if we get 0 points this side of xmas now with all the unrest. While we were inconsistent under Chris we certainly had as many points as anyone could have hoped for at this part of the season.
Ultimately, and most hurtful is his contract was up at the end of the year so they could have honoured that and just found someone new in the summer. Maybe they are now prepared to put some big money in or something and decided he wasn't the man but in my opinion he had done pretty well in the transfer market.
Lastly, Thank You to Chris Hughton and I hope you have success in whatever you do next (as long as it is not managing the Mackems!!)

NOV POKER PROFIT
Staking 1250
FL 0
Multi -180
NL 400
PLO 0
RAKEBACK 35
TOTAL PROFIT 1505
Great first 3 days then a mega frusrating month. It started with another staking score when one of my horses chopped an EPT side event and I had some good cash sessions and was sitting between 3K and 4K profit in 1st week. Gradually downhill since but have been mega unlucky not to land a major package in the month. In summarry I lost 2 50/50s each for a almost gtd EPT package worth about 10K$, lost a race for a PCA Caribbean seat worth 16K$ and similar for a 3K$ UKIPT seat - in all the above they were 1 seat only and 2nd got the same as say 16th.
Also looks like it is going to be my first year in poker without a major multi score - I have not had a chance to enter many since June however dissapointing all the same.
A bit of profit though that almost covers my sports leak this month.

THIS MONTHS MOVERS AND SHAKERS (NEW FEATURE)
Blog is a bit dead as not playing much poker - instead new feature on my movers and shakers for the month.
MOVING UP
1) RAISING HOPE - New series by the makers of My Name is Earl (one of my personnal favs) - really funny if you are new to parenting.
2) ANDY CARROLL - Good debut for England - will turn into an awesome player in my opinion.
3) SPURS - feel sick typing that but you cannot argue against beating Arsenal and Inter Milan.
MOVING DOWN
1) ANDY MURRAYS MAM (Dont even know her name) - I asked one of my mates if it was wrong that I detest her with a passion ever though never met her - she does my head in!!
2) VEGGIE QUORN - My Mrs is veggie so asked me to get her some quorn slices - when I got there I had a choice of chicken or ham flavour - WTF is that about whats wrong with carrorts or peas flavour !!!
3) NEWCASTLE CENTRE HALFS - What were they doing v Bolton and now both out for 3 games.

S EXPRESS
Saturday - Headed down to London for weekend with the boys - after 1.5 hr train delay had a decent night out with a couple of pubs / clubs with live music and beer / vodkas.
Sunderland LOL headed out for match on Sunday 5 - 1 awesome - watched it in Baker Steet - London before heading on to next event.
Shoila - Get in the net son.
SummerTime - W - end equals end of BST - time now is 5 past Sunderland :)
Shit then Good Headed to Wembly for the NFL - 1st half crap, last quarter awesome - first time at new Wembley - very impressive.
Staking Came back home to see some guy I had a small % in on 2+2 had shipped a chop 3 way in EPT side event so 2000$ for me.
Start of challenge - Have tryed his last 2 months and got quite close. Challenge is to turn micky mouse rakeback into 100*rakeback then withdraw. So far £35 into £450, however its £3500 or bust moving up stakes fast (got to 1K last month from 40 before busting)
Spurs - I hate them with a passion. Layed Man U at weekend and they play like Burton Albion then back Inter last night and they play like Real Madrid.

NEWS
Week of no poker - few work nights out, a 4 0 thumping by Arsenal and several nights of a baby not sleeping at the right times hence tired daddy!!
Days ahead llok like night out in London with boys tomorrow, followed by Newcastle Sunderland on TV as am going to the NFL game on Sunday - SF49s v Denver Broncos - have backed S49 to be best of two poor teams but cant wait for my first live game.
In other news - blew a few quid today on a brand new motor - my old one was 10 years old so had no clue that cars these days had no ignition keys etc !!!
Pretty boring Renault Megane Hatch.

VERY COLD OCT
Having a total disaster this month and close to the stop loss for month. Graph tells the story and EV would be even worse. Had loads of bad spots like KK into AA or AA versus flopped sets - however aint good.
Played a 50 rebuy tonight and similar to above.

Nothing to grumble about this month. Have not played loads but after decent start to month, what I have played has been highish stakes. I think the best way for me to sum up the month is run good, played good and staked good. My WCOOP investment cashed and I trebled that investment so my dollars run like Dobba dollars at the moment.
Obviously Brenos numbers will blow above out the water but have to say I am delighted with above after a small dry spell and the fact it has come from cash games rather than multis, which I am restricted in playing at the moment. It is basically my 2nd best month this year and this achieved without a major headline score with the £2K return from Brenos investment my biggest score.
DAY TIME TV - LOL
OMG - I was off this week and we took the little one away but it was mega hard work and basically spent one day in doors. The one thing I learned on this day was that if I ever get the bullet at work and turn poker pro then all I need to do is get sky out. I think with just daytime tv then I would do a minimum of 10 hours graft per day as it is truly horrendous - since many of you who read this are full time poker then here is my take on your average day ;)
Wake up - watch 2 hopeless presenters on a fortune who were hopeless when on another side. Turn onto the Wright stuff for some clown talk shit for next 90 minutes or so. Then we can see if we can sell our 25p item that is 8 years old for 28P - who gives a hoot. Next we can get someone who we don't like to do up our house in a style we don't like and pretend we do. Small respite for a sarnie and maybe 15 minutes decent news bulletin.
Next up - about 5 women talking crap about crap, followed by some other 112 year old trying to sell a watch for £3.50 that they bought on a £4 bus journey some 2 hours earlier for £3 and claim they have made 50p. Speaking of bus journeys, we can watch a program about who gets evicted off a bus - FFS who pays for this crap. Countdown still almost watchable inbetween.
Next time I am off - I am pretty sure I will get more from CBeebies. At least Ryder cup from 7am tomorrow :D
Thats all folks
do do dododo dodo d odod dododdod dooooooooooo doo doooo

I am usually delighted with any profit on sports betting as in the main is just a leak for me. However this month I am gutted to have made such a small profit - I basically ran golden in the US Open and had 9 from 10 winning match bets with half of them on underdogs - however for rest of month it just took the pish. Biggest pishtake was when some geezer missed a chip shop at NFL from about 20 yards to land me a 1400£ 4 timer but instead scores were tied, lost toss in OT and lost.
Ryder come coming up tomorrow which if i remember correct I lost an absolute fortune on last year - oh well !!!!

STEAK AND CHIPS
I have not updated much lately, things looking good at home with Zoe back to full fitness and we are going to take her up the coast for a few days although weather looks like rain rain rain.
I have backed a few players recently on 2+2 or mates and have done well on returns from Brenos getting me 2K after his 5th in English Open and I also got shipped 1K from swordfish007 for his similar size cash in WSOP. I played this up last night backing 2 people in the WCOOP main event (5200 buy in) and I bought 5% and 20% in 2 players. The former has busted but the latter is well positioned with just over 15% of the field left at end of day 1.
Playing wise then I played much less often but at higher stakes and have been holding my own in the games I have played, I got some real nice spots when i chipped up which you tend to forget apart from when your on the wrong side of them (example me AA SB and BB has QQ) which has given me a few $ to play my not so normal game.
Looking like it will be a decent month profit wise when add above together, a major cash by my horse in the WSOOP could blow the month out the water as top 3 in the tourney all get over a million $.
Still waiting for the Brenos EPO celebration part with his Gold card behind the bar.................................

GEORGE MICHAEL
Best so far from a multitude I have read.
George has denied allegations that in day 1 in the slammer that he has had a chocolate bar rammed up his ass. He has stated that it must have been a careless wispa.

A POKER UPDATE (BELIEVE IT OR NOT)
3 brief points.
1) WCOOP EVENTS
These have started on *s and played my first tourney for ages in the 215$ PLO 6 handed event with over 2000 runners. Played well for 8 hours and was about 40th of 90 left when i pressed self destruct and got it in bad 2 hands in a row to blow out 60th for just over 1k$. Huge congrats to Dave Dubai Shallow for shipping the 10K high rollers event in WCOOP 2.
2) Staking - LOL - got a message from someone asking me to look at something on 2+2 which I had not been on for yonks. I had quite a few private messages which seemed weird. Anyway turns out someone i staked in WSOP in the marketplace cashed for 45K or so in wsop and I had 3%. SO was chuffed with this and hopefully get the cash despite replying a month late. However, I then had another PM from say guy saying you backed me in wsop did i wnat same offer in another event. Event has now finished and the guy took it down for 65K lol and stakes were cheap so missed out on a free lunch !!!
3) Good luck Brennan in EPO today - I promise to write a huge thread on how great you are if I final table as long as it is accompanied by the photo your sister has posted of you on facebook. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.

FILM RECOMMENDATION
Just watched Oliver Stones new film (documentary) called South of the Border (details below). This shows how much propaganda you get from the American news networks such as Fox and CNN and I found it mega interesting. I also really liked that it is all over in 80 minutes where as most films these days seem to want to be almost double that. Its not exactly an action adventure but worth watching on sky.
INFO
There's a revolution underway in South America, but most of the world doesn't know it. Oliver Stone sets out on a road trip across five countries to explore the social and political movements as well as the mainstream media's misperception of South America while interviewing seven of its elected presidents. In casual conversations with Presidents Hugo Chavez (Venezuela), Evo Morales (Bolivia), Lula da Silva (Brazil), Cristina Kirchner (Argentina), as well as her husband and ex-President Nestor Kirchner, Fernando Lugo (Paraguay), Rafael Correa (Ecuador), and Raul Castro (Cuba), Stone gains unprecedented access and sheds new light upon the exciting transformations in the region.
Watch Out - Empire magazine dont like it so maybe its just me !!!
South Of The Border (15)
Plot
Following on from his riveting chats with Fidel Castro and Yasser Arafat, Oliver Stone travels to five South American countries and interviews their presidents, trying to understand what he sees as the rise of a new kind of popular democratic socialism in the region.
Verdict
Stone’s film could have allowed political voices that are rarely present to get a fair, and critical hearing. Instead he near smooches them to death.

SOME GOOD THINGS
1) First and foremost my little girl seems OK now and hopefully was a 1 off event, seems in rude health now and tests have not found anything significant.
2) Spam button on blogs - much much needed to get rid of some of the quarter wits.
3) Online subscription to Sunday Times - hard to go and get a paper these days and basically get Times free everyday if pay price for Sunday Times - I think this was totally free till recently, however still huge value for money, especially if complemented by checking out NOTW for the latest exploits of Brook etc :)
4) Well done Brenos on winning RTR seat.
5) Newcastle United 6 Villa 0 and an awesome Carroll hat trick.
6) C4 Friday nights is awesome - I like a few of the comedies that have been slated by the press.
and a few not so good but no worries !!!
1) When i get a few hands of poker I log on and blow a buy in asap !!!! (PLO awful still winning NLHE but net decent size losing month).
2) Have to go on business travel next week.
3) In the only multi I have played in last 6 weeks I busted just before cash with QQ v 1010 for a double av stack.
4) My horse(s) I have small shares in are running terrible at the moment - Fol Hollow, Teela especially.
5) Bens blog - change the record mate ;) :D

BLOG ON HOLD FOR WHILE
Wont be posting in near future.
My little girl was rushed to hospital via 999 call on Fri night and have been in hospital all weekend but fortunately home now and fingers cross all will be well. Don't want to go in details but an extremely harrowing experience for the 3 of us.
Purpose of post is just to say I wont be posting for a good while, rather than people wondering whats going on.
Also :-
A) Hardly playing
B) Given whats happened in last 6 weeks - things like winging about been below EV , 3 outers hitting etc are all completelely and totally pointless and irrelevant.
C) Some of the spammer posts that a couple of the spammers put on my post about Zoe made me physically sick. If they would put that kind of stuff to try and get a hit on their profile then they have very sad pathetic lives. To borrow a Highstack phase they are a set of ****S
Hopefully back at later point with better news etc. In meantime hope all gos well for everyone.

ZOE - THE LONG VERSION
Went to work last Thur when my Mrs was 7 days overdue and came home at 630ish as normal.
My wife was in bed suffering with what she called "period pains", however it wasn't long later that I thought they sounded much more like contractions and in the next hour or so I seemed more certain of this when 4 in 10 mins. However, she didn't make any fuss (nothing like i seen on TV!!!) and eventually we rang the hospital at 830PM as I was concerned that she was bleeding. Things then upped a little bit and I could see my Mrs was in more pain but nothing prepared me for next message. We arrived at hospital (I half expected to get sent home) and the midwife told her she was 9CM dilated and as such was going nowhere as labour was imminent. Literally 1 hr 30 from arriving at this hospital Zoe was born. If that had been the end of the process it would have been an amazing experience for both mum and dad.
However, Zoe heart rate dropped really low during the birth hence she had to be assisted by some very ugly looking utensils, unfortunately the umbilical code had become rapped round her neck and as such was born blue and very distressed and had to be treat for a good few minutes before she cryed. However, relief when she started crying but immediately followed by the biggest stress of my life.
Jean had some issues delivering the placenta which was stuck and as such she started bleeding intensely, she was rushed to theatre for an operation and I was left alone with the brand new baby. Things got really bad in theatre and she had to have multiple blood transfusions and when she came back 90 mins later she was literally yellow and shaking like a leaf - I could not believe how bad she looked and I literally thought she may not pull through.
She is so brave that despite been in this state she fed Zoe within 30 mins of coming back and she had obviously been crying for a long time as could not feed. That 90 mins or so was the best and worst moments of my life and emotions that were with me at this stage were indescribable. Eventually we were able to go to recovery ward as a threesome and I stayed with Jean and Zoe all night, eventually leaving at sometime between 6 and 7 the next morning. I dont mind admitting that I literally went home and got into bed in tears, I had been through such a huge emotional roller coaster and had completely lost control of my emotions.
Few hours later I was back at hospital and despite Zoe doing very well, Jean was still very sick and had to have more blood, however by end of day she was slightly better. I was quite shocked the next day when we were told we could go home, especially as Jean was still weak but she wanted to get out of there so we brought Zoe home.
Was a tough few days at home with the Mrs still ill and Zoey had swallowed lots of stuff she shouldn't have and was also not in the best of nick. However, I am really happy to say that 1 week later they both are ouch better and I can look forward to a fantastic life with the 2 women in my life who mean more to me than life itself. I am so proud of my wife and daughter and so pleased to come out the other side with such a positive result.
Other brief thoughts.
1) I never ever donated blood before - this will be the 1st thing I change in my life - events like above make you appreciate some things you take for granted.
2) People who know us have been so kind with gifts / offers for help and messages - this has meant a lot to me in the period described above.
3) A guy at my work who is South American told me that you don't know what love is until your baby is born, a very emotive statement but so so true.
4) It is unbelievable how immensely satisfying it is to be able to sooth / satisfy your baby and vice versa if you cant.
Anyway - wanted to do above - mainly for me as a memory for the future as to how lucky we have been and how grateful I am. I really appreciate the well wishes I have had on this blog (with exception of the spammers who are close in the life ratings to short stackers).
PS Played a few sessions of PLO when on paternity, about -2K all -EV, care - do I ****!!!!!
Thanks for reading.

DOWNWARD SPIRAL
The run good / play good combo has gone and have dropped over 4K in last week. On top of that I was having my worst sports month ever until i had a decent bet on the plate winner that reduced the deficit by 2/3 rds.
No movements on the home front and the Mrs is now overdue, and with spineless England now out then I have told her that its "time for the feet to hit the street" :).
Engalnd were so bad today that I cant be rsed to even blog about it but I think it would be fair to say with the exception of A Cole and maybe D James every single one of them has beenan absolute disgrace at this world cup.

TODAYS SIGNIFICANT EVENTS
1) ENGLAND
Much better performance with numerous players I would give 8/10 or above inc James, Terry, Gerrard, Milner and Defoe (for notching) and no yellow cards issue is big plus. I know that winning group was much easier route but would be a huge motivational win if we beat Germany and you have to beat the best teams somewhere (I consider to be Brazil / Argies / Spain).
PLO
Continue to play good and run good. I changed my style 6 weeks ago big style and I am still getting paid on previous style which is good, also tables are much easier than normal this month that helps.
THE LITTLE ONE
My Mrs is now offcially overdue and no sign of movement, special request not to start moving around 3 on Sunday please :)
GL chaps / chapesses.

STAKING IN WSOP
I have bought shares in 4 or 5 people in WSOP. 4 of which I do not know and they are just youung US kids from 2+2 whos stats online impressed me, obviously small risk of not getting paid expecially in light of recent days events!!!
Anyway - one of them is playing about 5 or 6 of the 1000 / 1500 buy in events and he has made day 3 with 50 odd left so fingers crossed. However, he was responsible for my favourite twitter post yet below, I just happended to check status between the two and assumed he had made a typo.

THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY
GOOD
PLO 600 is going very well for me, I think all the good players must be in Vegas and tables have been much softer this month than usual.
BAD
World cup is a disaster for me, think I lose evry bet and in huge sports hole again for the month.
UGLY
I know this guy from Betfair and have met him a couple of times. I simply cannot believe this whole event and worry what will happen in next 7 days or so. I backed him for a tourney last year - no idea if he played tbh!!!

WORLD CUP / SPORTS TROUBLES
Really cut number of bets this month, limited it to large infrequent bets and every one has lost thus far and in usual hole for month.
Poker has been up and down - I have had some good sessions at PLO and some awful ones also however got an overfull in versus underful earlier in 2000$ pot to get in front for month.
World cup has been terrible thus far with games about as interesting as sex in city 2. Hopefully Argies / England games can change that.

FOL HOLLOW
I could not go to Epsom today as have a heavily pregnant wife. However Fol just got done on the line in the last race at Epsom running another absolute corker. He is an absolute owners dream and ran awesome again today. I had a decent bet at 25s on Betfair so a bit gutted he could not hold on. However, I did make a proft on race as backed him at over 2-1 in a match bet v the fav.

Not good since above includes a 4 fig return on Hull to go down. I am changing approach and will be having much less bets. Have followed that this week.
Also tryed get a £100 on Hamilton @ 7-1 today and Bl Sq would lay me £50 only which is just like huge lol - maybe some other drivers were not trying today ..............anyway lucky to collect from what i just read.

NO WIN BUT VERY VERY NICE SCORE
Just came 3rd of 400 hundred and odd in the 320$ 150K gtd on *s which as I have said before is my fav tourney on the web for 16500$. (1st 29K and 2nd 22k.
Had at least 3 bits of good luck in the tourney which was a refreshing change including an Aj v AQ for tourney life and a 97 (LOL) beating AK.
Got to last 3 in marginal 2nd of 3 with chip leader well clear and then made a mistake on a qq6 board when i folded (well i actually time banked folded as didn't press fold) 88. This left me 3rd and I 4 bet all in AQ suited but ran into AK and didnt improve and missed the split outs on the river. However, I know i played extremely well tonight as had very limited ammunition cards wise and really really pleased with this score in one of the best tourneys on the net.
Was in a 4 fig hole from cash earlier so was extremely pleasing and changes May into a 5 fig £ win month. CHOOO CHOOO :)

ALMOST A DECENT DAY..........................
Mad as hell with myself - had grinded about 7 hrs and was about to log of with a 4 fig profit on day till i played the below hand like a total retard and bust back to where i started day. Below is so poor - I only flatted pre as he hardly ever 3 bets me and when did i had him on monster. I think flop is fine but turn is terrible and river even worse 0 rather pissed off with myself. At some point i change from him having aces to having AK where as in reality I am putting him on the only holding in the pack i can beat.

FINAL TABLE *S ENDS FRUSTRATING (AGAIN)
Was hoping I was going to make a positive post as lots of negatives of late but alas its another kick in teeth ending when near big score.
Got to final table of 100rebuy on *s with prizes 1st 18k$ 2nd 13k 3rd 10k down to 9th 1.5k
I was in last 8 when below hand came up. Pretty hard decision to be honest but I win the hand and I go marginal chip leader and to be honest i put him on exactly AQ.

37 MINS OF FUN
More joy on poker front.
Play 100r on *s flat behind 2 raisers with QQ pretty sure someone behind will shove which they do and i call as does one of the others and i am in great shape for quick double fig stack when i get it in with QQ v AQ versus retard with 810 who obv gets there.
Then get back up and jam AJ over a raise and a flatter and mateys monster 66 is too good for my AJ as he sanp calls.
Then a freeroll on Laddies for a cruise package or wsop thing (cant remember) - 8 sit outs on table so its literally there for the 2 of us (I am in position) to just share all the blinds but matey wants them all to him self so i start reraising in position as need to stack up as only 1 prize and get in beautiful with JJ v TT and can spend the next 1 hr just picking up all the free blinds and he spikes a 10.
Different day same shit.

NEW LIFE / POKER RULES
SPORTS BETTING
In another huge hole this month on sports and have done bad the last 18 months after a good 24 months proceeding it. I think the bets I have the strongest opinions about with reference to value seem to do the best/ However, the days when I am making obscene amounts of money on poker seem to be gone - so what was a mini leak before now does not have the funding so needs to be sorted out. Hence some rules below.
1) Split beating into 2 pools - 1)for proper money on strong fancies / value propositions which should be a small number of bets. 2) Things i bet on just to make sport more entertaining and really cut the amount stalked on these bets to a minimum.
2) No bets unless have properly researched the bet if it is a bet in 1) above.
3) Leave long term ante post bets - stop laying off as I do well on these but then win f all as have layed off.
POKER
We move to a 1 income family in about a months time with an extra mouth to feed. I cannot / wont continue to do what I am doing and am at a bit of a crossroads with poker.
1) My best and most profitable game is multis but I imagine these are difficult to play when have a little one so probably need to cut right down on these.
2) Hence 1) means I need to play cash which I have my confidence busted in as turned 15k$ profit to 0 over last2 months. I think if i play then my max stake is going to be 2 4 unless I establish a roll. If i cannot beat 1/2 or 2/4 over a 3 month period then I am going to pack in poker completely until the little one gets to say 6 months.
WORK
Need to change my work hours - have been doing something like 830 - 630 with no lunch break. I have probably reached as high as I can in the company and while I will always work extremely hard I need to prioritise some family life and at the end of the day I get the same pay whether graft my arse off or just do what I can in the time I have.

On my facebook status I put I had been on TV and said its probably the most athletic sport that I could feature on - Brenos asked me in chat if it was darts :) - cheeky **** !!!!

ALMOST A MAJOR SCOOP :(
Played the 500 and the 50 SCOOP tonight with no joy in either, however I had a near miss in a scoop sat. I played one the crazy 33$ rebuy for the seats to the main event worth 10k$. I ran really well and got to final table of 9 as chip leader with 1.8 million chips. The first 3 got 10k$ seats then 4th -8th 900$ and i ended up losing 3 races in a row at the final table to leave with 900$ in 6th or 7th and if won one of the frst two races then i would be huge fav for the 10k seat so very disappointed in the end. However 900$ better than nothing and gives me a bit to play with.

WOOO HOO FOL HOLLOW
Well Fol ran a stinker at York but I had a really good day with a couple of winners and hanging out in the newly done out owners and trainers area.
He then ran at Thirsk today and to be honest I couldn't fancy him based on running the other day even though around 16s on Betfair this morning looked generous. My judgement was as good as always when he when he went on to win a class 2 race with very decent prize money and his first class 2 - awesome run although may struggle now from handicap perspective. I lost loads of cash on horses today also so should be delighted but instead kicking myself for not going to Thirsk as only 90 mins away and not throwing a few quid on just in case.
Anyway prize money gets me a fw hundred ton so reduces the days losses slightly !!!
£18600 added, 4yo plus, 5f, Class 2, £12045 penalty, 7 ran

He then ran at Thirsk today and to be honest I couldn't fancy him based on running the other day even though around 16s on Betfair this morning looked generous. My judgement was as good as always when he when he went on to win a class 2 race with very decent prize money and his first class 2 - awesome run although may struggle now from handicap perspective. I lost loads of cash on horses today also so should be delighted but instead kicking myself for not going to Thirsk as only 90 mins away and not throwing a few quid on just in case.
Anyway prize money gets me a fw hundred ton so reduces the days losses slightly !!!

THREAD FROM 2+2
+1 for me on below on thoughts on the way game going at mid / high stakes
HeyEveryone I'm getting a job after 5 years as a pro
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been an online pro for 5 years averaging 6 figures a year and am finally getting a job. I'll probably get flamed for this but I feel this is the beginning of the end unless UIGEA gets repealed or Asia Embraces online poker, neither look particularly likely and either one would just prolong the unavoidable.
These new shallow games on FTP and stars are basically to keep online poker going. They are trying to lower the loss rates of the fish (and thus lower the per hand win rates of the winning players). That is what happened on full tilt and that is what will happen on Stars. The games even at Midstakes are 80% shallow and even when deep runs it is rare they are soft. It is rare that I play someone and they make the type of mistake I used to see every 15 minutes 3 years ago.
Ipoker is not letting their good players move money around as they please anymore.
Poker sites see the games drying up so are trying to prolong the process.
Pokertableratings has over a million unique views and has sold hand histories to almost 10,000 people. Are there enough fish to feed that many people that obviously care about studying the game and their winrate?
Look at how many of the poker site coaches are losing or slight winners. They in general used to kill the games. People still have leaks but you don't make ANYWHERE NEAR the kind of money from someone who 3 bets 5% too much or misses value bets as some one who can't get away from top pair meh kicker regardless of who is betting at him.
The WSOP main event player pool dropped by 20% from 2008-2009 I would be amazed if it didn't drop again this year.
When the economy returns is poker going to come back? I honestly doubt it will significantly. Look at Backgammon in the 70s, there were many people making a lot of money from it. It was sort of a fad and although it is still around the player pool is much tougher. My dad used to play a decent amount of Backgammon cash games in the 70s and told me as soon as I was making decent money from online poker "PLAY TONS, it will not be like this very long", citing his backgammon experience of just noone significantly weaker than him wanting to play for money anymore. It is really true.
The top of the top players will generally continue to make large money as will the players with connections to private fish ponds. Many of the top poker minds would probably be able to make similar as traders or in another field in my opinion and I believe that the next durrrrr will likely not be a poker player.
I'm going to make a Midstakes thread about some more of my opinions regarding the state of online poker and things I have learned along the way.
I will say that the best decisions I have made in my life was to play online poker professionally. Ive traveled to 30 countries and taken roughly a 3 year road trip through poker funds and still have a decent amount saved up. Having a lot of free time and money in your 20s is truly the nuts, but retirement money from online poker is hardly possible anymore without counting the biggest MTTs and I don't want to grind out a middle class income online until my kids go to college (which I believe will always be possible for intelligent players if nothing else solely because me and people like me are getting jobs.)
I'm thinking of doing a well or something like that, though I'm not sure what forum it will be in. If you count all my 2+2 accounts (like 2 or 3 of them) I have probably about 13,000 posts. I think all my bans were from OOT where the ban stick is basically meaningless (they'd probably ban me for saying that).
Thanks for reading
tl;dr notes
Pro for 5 years getting a job now, feel poker is no longer worthwhile as a career for myself and most people that were making good money at it a few years ago.

GOING RACING (MAYBE TWICE IN 3 DAYS)
As regular readers will know I have small shares in 3 horses.
Fol Hollow - good quality sprinter
Teela - Unraced 3 year old that basically eats and never runs!!!
Johney Foley - one for the future over the sticks but ran well in NH flats this year - lots of potential.
I think Teela wont be seen out for a while as I got a mail offering me a free lease of a horse called Hels Angel (which they didnt have to do) to compensate for the ownership frustration of not getting to the track yer which probably means its crocked again !!!
Anyway Fol Hollow is entered at York on Thursday at the Dante meeting and the racing is top class so am going to go with the Mrs on my owners badge - I think he should hopefully be in the frame.
Then Hels Angel is entered at Newcastle on Friday night so might as well take that freebie if it runs.
Hence I found something else to waste my cash on when my poker ban kicks in for a while. I played team game tonight and came last getting it in with a set versus flush that obv hit !!!!
Link attached for anyone interested in joining a good racehorse ownership syndciation club (not really a gambling syndicate). Basically you get full ownership rights and an owners badge each time runs even if only own 2.5%. If you get a decent horse this can pay for itself if runs at major meetings and you are flexible to attend.
MIDDLEHAM PARK RACING
EDIT
Fol runs tomorrow and I am going it is 10-1
Hels Angel looks like wont run at Newcastle Fri and instead next week prob Carlisle

BAD DAY AGAIN
Another 4 fig loss when playing shocking across NLHE and PLO. According to Hold Em manager I got to 16k$ in front ah hight point this year ar 3/6$ and 5/10$ over 20K hands now after 26K hands I am up less than 1k$ on year. I cannot blame bad luck either as EV says i should be small loser.
Lost all motivation and desire for this game with exception of multis that I still enjoy. However, when little one comes along that is probably the one discipline it will not be practical to play.
Very very close to giving up for a period as dont feel it any more, just play multis ongoing on nights i play. I have team game tomorrow night that frankly is about as desirable as shopping at the moment but will grind through it so dont let team down, however letting myself down at moment as mindset / form / desire all shit.

BAD DAY
Was down at cash before playing a very expensive sat to the 2100 stars event tonight with intention of unreg and using tourney dollars for rest of scoops i wanted to play if qualified.
The good news was I qualified for 700$, the bad news was the main event had already started and hence i could not unreg and had to play the 2100$ event.I got to 18K after 2 levels from 10K stack and was above average, however then ran top 2 pair into a flush and was crippled before i shoved into aces.
Stars rebuy was well stacked when ran AK into AA when i should have folded pre flop. Also entered and did nothing in 200 SCOOP and lost a bit on fixed limit on the side.
Sold 30% of main event action that I really wanted them to get a return on, but ulimately this slightly reduces my losses on the day. I also bought some shares in some kid in the WSOP ultimately now leaving my role on *s very low again.
I think role management is by far my weakest area in poker,

SAT POKER
AM session 3 6 NL did ok won few buy ins.
PM session joined a multitude of multis across stakes.
- Lost over 1000$ with an awful move at cash.
- 300$ 150K gtd got very decent stack fast - then called a 4 bet with AK and got it all in v a bog stack to go chip leader with half field down on K75 board and i was dead versus KK.
- Shortly after above i was playing a 25% rebuy to get into 700 WSOP sat final and bubbled this getting 25$ rather than the 700 seat.
- Played 2 freeroll things - qualified for the 150K final of one which is on 31st May but think it will have zillions of runners.
- I then played the 215 SCOOP quadruple shoot out and lost pair v flush draw to go 2nd in 1st game.
- I then played an Omaha sat into the 1500 SCOOP and was 6th of 6 with 4 seats but then got aggro and got through loads raises to get safe - i got a 1500$ seat and unregged to give me some SCOOP dollars for next week or so.
Had quite a few beers now so will reg for the 216 PLO SCOOP in an hr or so. Good luck me I wont find many folds :)

A RARE NIGHT OFF FOR SKY 3D
Had night off poker and went to a bar showing Sky 3D to watch Man C v Spurs with a few mates including Ben "thefish" Holmes who is a Spurs fan. I wanted to try 3D before the world cup. To be honest was not impressed with 3D at all, only value is when the camera is static hence at the moment i dont see it been real good for football and could see it working much better for tennis / golf. However, I have little doubt they will develop the product with more and more cameras and will be the way tv is watched in the future.
Onto the match, for once I wanted spurs to win and was pretty gutted with below bet on Betfair when a goal was chalked off questionably which would have landed me 6 ton of 9 quid. Bentley then came on so i lost £25 on FGS - however had draw HT Spurs FT to win a few quid on the night and thought Spurs deserved the win and the 4th place.

Ledley King 65.00 9.00 Back 05-May-10 18:54 -9.00

FINAL TABLE (PROPER REPORT TOMORROW)
Just came 5th of 900 in the 65K GTD on *S for 6.7k$.
Pleased with the score but bit gutted on fin tab as I had chip lead and was 2nd a lot of the time.
Prizes were 24k, 17k, 13k, 9.8k and 6.8K and have to say I am devasted not to get the extra 3k for 4th - chuffing short stack must have won 3 or 4 all ins.
Anyway never mind getting closer and this time decent score.
Final hand I shoved for 20 odd BB when 4 of 5 with 99 and BB had JJ.

SCOOP EVENT 1 215$ 6 MAX 1MILL GTD
Was going to play a load of these SCOOP events, however the number of hrs you can play for a min cash can really put you off.
Was in great shape tonight with 300 left I was about 20th with 580K when av was less than 200K. However, i promised myself not to play tame after Irish open and I 4 bet 55 all in versus 1010 and busted back to 260K. From then on in was on a real tough table getting pants cards and couldnt do much - I got lowish then doubled back to 2/3 of av stack. I played real well for about 6 or 7 hrs and picked up loads of pots with nothing and didnt get a mass of big hands, however played poor last hr or so. I I made a pretty big mistake with 150 left - there was a min raise from a 15BB player and this got flatted and I was on BB with A3 - I should have called but thought could steal pot and shoved in and got snapped by JJ to leave me shortish. I later reraised a frequent raiser with an overshove all in with 44 but someone woke up with queens abehind nd despite having a few outs by turn that was that :( I beat 6500 runners but finished 140oddth for less than 1k$ for 10hrs
Top 3 places were over 100K, top 12 over 10K, top 30 over 5k, and top 50 2.5k for what could have been !!!!.
I have cashed last 4 multis but for aboslute min cashes - for the record there were a FTOPS the 300 and 100 1000 runner multis on *s in Sat and this 1st scoop event.
